Comet 149P was initially discovered by Jean MUELLER (and assigned as P/MUELLER 4 (1992 G3, 1992 IV)) on a 90 minutes exposure taken with the 1.2-m Oschin Smidt telescope on Mount Palomar during the course of the Palomar Sky Survey on 9 april 1992 and has a photographic magnitude of 17.5. The comet was at opposition and 2 months past perihelion moving slowly NW on Böotes and fading after discovery. The comet is in a Jupiter-crossing orbit and has a close encounter with the planet in 1976.  See IAUC 5495
