COMET C/2020 U4 (PANSTARRS) - (astro.vanbuitenene.nl)

Discovery (CBET 4880 )

M.P.E.C. 2020-U260

R. Weryk and Y. Ramanjooloo reported the discovery of a comet in four 45-second Pan-STARRS 1 (F51) images obtained on Oct. 22 UT.  They reported a 0".5 diffuse coma and 4" straight tail toward position angle 120 deg.

Subsequently, Weryk located prediscovery detections going back to Nov. 2019.

Prediscovery detections were also reported by Mount Lemmon Survey.  Additional reports of cometary features are as follows:

OC   Date        Reporter           Coma    Tail    PA          Exposures

F51  2020-10-03  R. Weryk           0".5      2"    120           4x45s

F51  2020-10-23  R. Weryk           0".5      4"    120           4x60s
