Discovery:  IAUC 8348: COMET P/2004 K2 (McNAUGHT)

A comet has been discovered by R. H. McNaught on CCD images obtained with the 0.5-m Uppsala Schmidt telescope at Siding Spring on may 20.  Following posting on the NEO Confirmation Page, J. Young reported that CCD images obtained with the 0.6-m reflector at Table Mountain on May 25.5 UT show an 8"-10" coma with no apparent central condensation and a straight, narrow tail 20"-30" long in p.a. 252 deg.  CCD images taken by A. C. Gilmore and P. M. Kilmartin with the 0.6-m reflector at Mount John on May 25.7 show a circular 5" coma and no tail.

Recovery: IAUC 9040 : P/2009 H2 (McNaught)

The comet was recovered by Spacewatch on 28 April 2009 and independently by G. Muler, J. M. Ruiz and R. Naves with the 0.30-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope at the Nazaret Observatory on May 1. The comet had an apparent magnitude of 20.2. The comet appeared stellar in the single 120s exposure by Spacewatch. Afterwards, the comet was given the permanent number 220P
