Comet 250P/LARSON - ( = 1996 = 2003 = 2011 A1)

Discovery comet P/2011 A1 (LARSON) IAUC 9207:

A 19th magnitude comet was discovered by Steve Larson on Catalina Sky Survey images taken with the 0.68-m Schmidt telescope on January 10.44. Confirming images were taken with the Mt. Lemmon 1.5-m reflector and also following posting on the NEOCP. The comet has a period of 7.3 years and was at perihelion at 2.2 AU in 2010 November.

250P / Larson is a periodic comet discovered by Stephen M. Larson. The comet was actually discovered on 10 January 2011, but when the MPEC circular announced the discovery, pre-discovery images from 11 December 2010 had already been discovered, later pre-discovery images were discovered dating back to 22 December 1995 and including the two previous perihelion passages, allowing the comet to be definitively numbered in record time.
