Comet 256P/LINEAR - ( = P/2003 HT15 = P/2012 B2)

Discovery:

Comet 2003 HT15 was discovered on april 26, 2003 as an apparently asteroidal object of 18th magntiude found by LINEAR.  Carl Hergenrother saw on CCD-images, taken with the Mount Hobkins 1.2-m telescope on June 24.3, that this object was cometary.  Hergenrother noted a diffuse coma of diameter 15" (and mag 18.6 within an aperture of radius 8") and a broad tail 60" long in p.a. 115 deg on co-added 900-s R-band images taken on June 24.3 UT . The comet has perihelion at 2.7 AU and a period of 9.9 years. [IAUC 8156] It will further fade.

Recovery:

Comet 2003 HT15 was recovered on 2012 January 26.5 by T. Seki, S. Shimomoto and H. Sato at Geisei with a 0.70-m f/7 reflector and assigned as comet 252P/2012 B2 (LINEAR). The return to perihelion is 0.17 days later than the prediction
