Discovery:

G. J. Garradd  discovered this 17-the magnitude comet on CCD images taken with the 0.5-m Uppsala Schmidt at Siding Spring on 2007 april 22.51, the object showing a faint tail 15" long in p.a. 10 deg on the 30-s survey exposure.  Following posting on the Minor Planet Center's 'NEOCP' webpage, confimation was made by N. Teamo and S. Hoenig report that their CCD frames taken with a 0.41-m f/8 reflector at Punaauia, Tahiti, on Apr. 23.3 UT show a 4" coma and an 8" tail in p.a. approximately 35 deg. ( IAUC 8833 ) comet was assigned as P/2007 H3 (GARRADD).

Recovery :

an observing team at the Pierre Auger Observatory Malargue , recovered comet P/2007 H3 (GARRADD),  using the 0.3m f/10 reflector on 2014 January 6.31.  This comet was temporarly assigned as P/2014 A1 (GARRAD) and later assigned as periodic numbered comet 296P/GARRADD.  The comet was close to the predicted time of return. Period is 6.5 years.
