Discovery: ( IAUC 8656 )

A new comet (with a well-developed tail approximately 20" long to the west-northwest) discovered by R. Hill on Catalina survey

images taken on Jan. 6 was found by T. Spahr, Minor Planet Center, to be identical with an object found by LONEOS on Dec. 4 and designated 2005 XA_54 (with two nights of observations on MPS 155505)  see also MPEC 2006-A26

Recovery:

D. Rankin reported the apparent discovery of a 19th magnitude new comet with a 10" Coma on CCD images obtained with the Mt. Lemmon Survey's 1.5-m reflector on 2020 Nov. 16.5 UT), which was placed on the Minor Planet Center's PCCP webpage. M. Rudenko writes that Rankin notified the MPC shortly thereafter that he suspected this comet to be a recovery presumably of comet P/2005 XA_45.
