C/2012 K5 (LINEAR) - 26 may 2012

Object CD05581 was published o the NEOCP since May 25.32 2012 I made some follow-up measurements of this object, while it was still on the NEOCP. It was a cropped starfield and very hard to select images were the cometary appearance has a good visibility.

Stacking of five R-filtered exposures, 120-sec each, obtained  from my backyard BRIXIIS observatory

on 2012, May 27.02, through a 0.4-m f/3.8 astrograph + CCD, shows that this object is a comet: coma 14" in diameter and a tail nearly 13" long in PA 233 deg.

Animated GIF of five images - here can you see the cometary appearance and the short tail. North is down and East is right

First astrometric data can you find in M.P.E.C. 2012-K69

CBET 3127 issued on 28 may 2012 announced the discovery of comet C/2012 K5  by LINEAR Sky Survey. An apparently asteroidal object (CD05581) discovered by the LINEAR survey and posted on the Minor Planet Center's NEOCP webpage, has been found by other CCD astrometrists to show cometary appearance
