Discovery

an apparently asteroidal object discovered on CCD images taken on 2020 June 27.6 UT with a 0.5-m f/2 Schmidt reflector at Mauna Loa, Hawaii, In the course of the "Asteroid Terrestrial-Impact Last Alert System" (ATLAS) search program. CCD astrometrists found cometary appearances.

H. Sato (Tokyo, Japan) found on images taken on June 28.70 UT with a 0.51-m f/6.8 astrograph at Siding Spring, NSW, Australia, a strongly condensed coma 8" in diameter with a spike-like tail extending 12" toward p.a. 245 degrees; the magnitude was 18.6 as measured within a circular aperture of radius 4".9.   also Six stacked 60-s exposures taken by Sato with the same telescope on June 29.71 show a strongly condensed coma 8" in diameter and a hint of tail 12" long toward the west; the magnitude was 18.8 as measured within a circular aperture of radius 4".9.

S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, found that eight stacked 60-s exposures taken remotely on June 30.77 by K. Yoshimoto (Kumage, Yamaguchi, Japan) with a 0.50-m f/6.8 reflector at Siding Spring, an 11" coma of mag 18.8 and a broad tail 8" long in p.a. 235 deg.

A. Valvasori, Padulle, Italy, reports that twenty-four unfiltered 60-s exposures taken remotely by E. Guido and himself on July 1.6 with an iTelescope 0.50-m f/6.8 reflector at Siding Spring show a small, compact coma about 10" in diameter that is elongated northward (p.a. 0 degrees); the magnitude was measured as 18.1-18.6.  The available astrometry appear on MPEC 2020-N11.
