COMET C/2020 N2 (ATLAS)

An apparently asteroidal object discovered on CCD images taken on July 13 with a 0.5-m f/2 Schmidt reflector at Mauna Loa, Hawaii, in the course of the "Asteroid Terrestrial-Impact Last Alert System" (ATLAS) search program has been found to show cometary appearance by CCD astrometrists elsewhere after it was posted on the Minor Planet Center's PCCP webpage.

Twenty-four stacked 20-s exposures taken by H. Sato, Tokyo, Japan, remotely with a 0.51-m f/6.8 astrograph at Siding Spring, NSW, on July 15.7 UT show only stellar appearance; the magnitude was 18.4 as measured within a circular aperture of radius 4".9.  Images taken by P. Camilleri, J. Oey, and R. Groom with the Perth Observatory 0.34-m f/5 reflector on July 19.87 show a diffuse 5" coma with condensation and of mag 18.2.  E. Guido, Castellammare di Stabia, Italy, wrotes that fifteen stacked 20-s unfiltered exposures taken by E. Guido in collaboration with M. Rocchetto, E. Bryssinck, M. Fulle, G. Milani, C. Nassef, G. Savini, A. Valvasori on July 20.36 remotely with a "Telescope Live" 0.6-m f/6.5 astrograph at El Sauce, Chile, show a compact coma about 10" in diameter and mag 17.7......
