One of the new options is a user-defined alignmentarea. In the example above it is clear that in the image of jupiter on the left the 128x128 alignment area the user has choosen is too small. Using the “userdefined alignmentbox” option we can draw (using the mouse) a box around the topic of our choice. RegiStax will then show 2 alignmentboxes, the inner box is the user-defined box and the outerbox is the alignmentbox RegiStax uses for the initial alignment estimate.
 

During optimisation the user-defined box comes into action. In the image we see here the left-image represents our reference image (the default alignmentboxsize) but on the right we see the userdefined section that is used to optimize.
